2024 Hispano Chamber Scholarships

The Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce is providing 3 types of scholarships for the 2024 Education Excellence Celebration. The Scholarships are designed to provide recognition for educational achievement and award leadership qualities to graduating Hispanic high school seniors that will be attending an institution of higher learning or trade school; and students currently enrolled in an institution of higher education (undergraduate or graduate) or non-traditional adults looking to obtain a degree or certificate. The Scholarship committee will consider the educational achievements, leadership qualities, letters of recommendation, written essays and strong financial need.

2024 HISPANO CHAMBER SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000 AWARD

Application Deadline: Friday, March 29, 2024, 12:00pm MST


Scholarship Objective: to provide recognition for educational achievement and leadership qualities to graduating New Mexico high school seniors that will be attending an institution of higher learning or trade school.


Eligibility: 

  • High School seniors graduating in the current school year and planning to enroll in an institution of higher education or a trade school in the 2024-25 academic year. 
  • NM residents with a 2.5 GPA or higher.
  • All students regardless of documentation status are eligible.

Complete Application includes:

  • One recommendation letter
  • Personal statement
  • Resumé
  • Unofficial transcript


Recommendation Letter(s)

The person(s) completing the recommendation letter should be a school official, employer or community member who is not related to you and they should sign the letter and print it on letterhead. Your recommender should be someone who can talk about your academic accomplishments, your potential in completing a degree or certificate program, your passion for education beyond high school, and your overall character. Please give the person(s) plenty of time to complete the recommendation letter.



Personal Statement

300 – 500 words, double-spaced, expressing your financial need, education and career goals. Please explain how these goals relate to your cultural background.


Resumé

In addition to employment and education history, include school activities and leadership positions, civic/community involvement (volunteer work) and any honors/awards you have received.

2024 OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION - $1,000 AWARD

Application Deadline: Friday, March 29, 2024, 12:00pm MST


Scholarship Objective: for individuals who earned their high school diploma, GED or high school equivalency at least one year ago and desire a post-secondary education in pursuit of career goals.

Eligibility:

  • Individuals 19 or older living in NM or those who consider NM their home. 
  • Students earned a high school diploma, GED or high school equivalency during or before September 2024. 
  • Are enrolled or planning to enroll in an institution of higher education or trade school for academic year 2024-25.
  • All students regardless of documentation status are eligible.


Complete Application must include:

  • Application form
  • One recommendation letter
  • Personal statement
  • Resumé
  • Unofficial transcript if currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution or a trade school

2024 THRIVE MULTI-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP - $5,500 AWARD

(Total amount over a period of up to four years)

Application Deadline – Friday, March 29, 2024, 12:00pm MST


Scholarship Objective: to provide multi-year scholarships annually to see students through graduation beginning Fall 2024. Provide mentoring through either CNM or UNM and connect students to the business community through the Hispano Chamber membership for real world experience and opportunities.


Eligibility: This scholarship is specifically for individuals for whom Fall 2024 will be their first semester ever to enroll in a two-year, four-year, or trade program.

  • Completed high school diploma/equivalency OR currently a high school senior.
  • Must enroll at UNM OR CNM.
  • At UNM must enroll for a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester.
  • At CNM for 12 credit hours for degree or certificate program for length of certificate or degree program (typically not longer than two years).


Scholarship continuation considerations: 

To maintain the Thrive Scholarship you must provide the following requirements each year: 

  1. Send an unofficial transcript with proof of enrollment.
  2. Maintain a minimum 2.27 cumulative GPA.
  3. Send a thank you letter outlining accomplishments and goals to share with donor.
  4. Attend and participate in the annual AHCC-sponsored coaching/networking event for program participants.

Video

Create a 2–3-minute video explaining your education goals, career objective and plans for giving back to New Mexico. Creativity is encouraged but you must appear in the video and talk for at least half of the length of the video. Please keep to the time limit requirement and then email the video link with the rest of your scholarship materials to bea@ahcnm.org by the scholarship deadline. You are not required to publish the video, below are the directions to create an Unlisted YouTube video:

  1. Sign into your YouTube Account.
  2. Click on the Your Videos tab under the YouTube menu bar, directing you to your channel content through Studio YouTube.
  3. Select the video which you’d like to make an unlisted video. Click the Details icon to access the video’s settings.
  4. You will see the option to mark you video as “unlisted”, “public”, or “private” by selecting the visibility drop down menu, then selecting unlisted.
  5. Do not forget to click the Save button. Once you’ve done this your video will be an unlisted video.
  6. Copy the link to your video and paste on the body of the email when you submit the application.
