Chicharra Poetry Slam
The Convention & Tourism team is proud to partner with the Chicharra Poetry Slam Festival, a dynamic, multi-day celebration of spoken word that brings national energy to Albuquerque’s creative landscape. In 2026, the festival will welcome more than 80 of the nation’s top poets and spoken word artists, representing over 30 cities and competing in individual, team, and youth championships for $5,000 in prizes. From open mics and workshops to a haiku championship, youth competitions, and a vibrant book market, Chicharra transforms the city into a hub for artistic expression and cultural exchange. By supporting this event, we help position Albuquerque as a premier destination for arts-driven conferences and festivals that generate meaningful economic impact while elevating the voices shaping the future of performance poetry.
